We are proud to announce that BHI is among 40 national finalists for the 2020 Plan Sponsor of the Year awards. BHI ranked as a top 5 finalist for best corporate 401(k) plans in the $25M to $50M category. These rankings honor the nation’s leading retirement plan sponsors in 10 categories based on size and type. The winners will be announced at the 2020 Excellence in Retirement Awards Dinner in March. Bohannan Huston Participates in Future Focused X3 Program

As part of an initiative to take an active role in workforce development in our community, BHI is participating in the Future Focused X3 program this spring. The X3 internship program works with local employers to connect with high school students. The students are paired with employers to provide meaningful work experiences to develop the skills and character necessary for their future professions. On Monday, January 27, two interns from ACE Leadership High School started their X3 internship in the Albuquerque office.

Winners of the 2020 ACEC New Mexico Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) were announced at the ACEC luncheon on Tuesday, January 21. Four of BHI’s submittals won awards and one received an honorable mention.

Employee Learning Week and a Special Legacy Session with Larry Huston

As part of Bohannan Huston’s first employee learning week we enjoyed a special session with one of BHI’s founders, Larry Huston. In an interview led by Laura Suazo, Larry shared stories from his life, reflected on the early BHI days, and discussed business and leadership insights. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to share their knowledge by leading a learning session. Some of the learning events and activities held during this campaign included: the Crochet a Beanie class, Blue Beam Basics, CPR Training, Escape the Room night, a Fighter Jet Communication activity, Backpacking 101, Project Linus No Sew Blankets, multiple Technology Tips & Tricks, guest speaker presentations, and so many more. We are grateful to have so many experienced subject matter experts willing to volunteer and connect with other learners interested in exploring something new!
Bohannan Huston Participates in Employee Learning Week

To increase awareness about the strategic value of learning in organizations, the Association for Talent Development (ATD) has declared December 2-6, 2019, as “Employee Learning Week.” Bohannan Huston is coordinating an internal Learning Week campaign to bring focus and awareness of talents and interests of the workforce, with a plethora of learning opportunities for the staff in their Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Denver offices.
Bohannan Huston Attends Children’s Water Festival

Approximately 1,400 third and fourth graders from the Rio Rancho and Placitas area participated in the Children’s Water Festival at the Santa Ana Star Center to learn about where their water comes from. The annual interactive event introduces the students to new ideas, concepts, and techniques about water resources. For over a decade BHI has hosted Water Jeopardy at the Children’s Water Festival. Thanks to Nathan Roberts, Brianna Sullivan, Carl Vermillion, Robert Salazar, and Carolyn Medin for volunteering to represent BHI at this important event.

Bohannan Huston announced nine leadership promotions last week. Each of these individuals brings specialized expertise to BHI’s leadership team.
Glenn Broughton, PE; Brian Cosbey; Nick Davis, PE; Sarah Ganley, PE; Yolanda Moyer, PE; Kevin Murtagh, PE; Nathan Roberts, PE; Juan Samaniego, PE; and Eric Wrage, PE, PTOE were promoted to Vice Presidents in each of their respective departments.
BHI Receives Family Friendly Business Award

We are proud to announce that BHI continues to be a committed leader in implementing family friendly policies in the workplace. This week Bohannan Huston earned distinction for its workplace policies by Family Friendly New Mexico, a statewide initiative developed to recognize companies that have adopted policies that give New Mexico businesses an advantage in recruiting and retaining the best employees. The gold level family friendly business award recognizes businesses that meet family friendly policies in paid leave, health support, work schedules, and economic support.

We would like to give a huge thank you to our CANstruction team members and BHI for supporting this Casa de Peregrinos volunteer event. BHI Las Cruces has supported this group for several years now as they strive in their mission to alleviate hunger in our community and promote public awareness of hunger in Doña Ana County. This year’s theme was centered around Casa De Peregrinos’ 40th anniversary, so BHI Las Cruces designed and built a Chile Cake can sculpture for the competition.

As alumni of St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe, Erica Newman and Olin Brown were invited to attend the school’s Alumni Career day earlier this month. Along with other alumni, Erica and Olin were part of a panel that spoke to a group of approximately 40 students to discuss their career paths and their jobs as civil engineers. City of Hobbs Launches Public Release of Web-Enabled City-Wide Mobile LiDAR Scanning Data

The City of Hobbs is pleased to announce the public release of its Mobile LiDAR Scanning (MLS) data collection. In a partnership, Hobu, Inc. and Bohannan Huston, Inc. published high-resolution 3D data of the City of Hobbs to the web to demonstrate proof-of-concept data processing and access capabilities of the open source Entwine Point Tile (EPT) data format in the Mobile LiDAR domain.
Nathan Roberts Selected for Water Leadership Institute Program

The Water Leadership Institute Steering Committee, supported by the Water Environment Federation, recently selected Nathan Roberts, PE, to its class of 2019. Nathan is among just 54 professionals chosen to participate in the highly selective program promoting leadership in the water industry. Selected participants are invited to attend a conference in June at the Water Environment Federation headquarters in Virginia, as well as the Water Environment Federation Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference in New Orleans in September.

Olin Brown, Amit Pathak, Vince Steiner, and Pam Thies (members of BHI’s Sustainable Solutions Task Force) attended a presentation at Annunciation Catholic School where Mr. Walsh‘s 4th grade class spoke of the many ways they are leading the effort to “Go Green” at their school and also encouraging the community around them to do so.
Roadrunner Foodbank Volunteering

A small group from BHI Albuquerque volunteered at Roadrunner Foodbank on Friday, Dec 7th – they packed 4,500 lbs of canned foods! Roadrunner Foodbank feeds 70,000 hungry people each week and distributes more than 30 million pounds of food every year. It was incredibly rewarding to support an organization that has been combating hunger and poverty in New Mexico for over 35 years. Thank you to Olin, Andrew, Melanie B., Angie, Melanie M., and Marie for volunteering with this great organization!
BHI Las Cruces Volunteers at Casa de Peregrinos

The BHI Las Cruces office teamed up with the Casa de Peregrinos Food Program and Calvary Baptist Church for their Annual Turkey and Food Drive on November 19. The Las Cruces staff was part of the volunteer team who helped distribute approximately 2,200 Thanksgiving Food Baskets to Las Cruces and Doña Ana County families in need.

BHI Attends Science & Engineering Research Challenge

On behalf of NAIOP, BHI representatives Josh Lutz and Erica Newman helped judge the 58th Central NM Science & Engineering Research Challenge (SERC) on March 23. The challenge was themed, Award the Best…Encourage the Rest, and included presentations focused on science, technology, engineering, math and health sciences projects. BHI contributed towards two special awards for Senior (grades 9-12) and Junior (grades 6-8) division projects.
BHI Ranks No. 2 on NM Top Engineering Firms List

BHI made the Albuquerque Business First’s Top Engineering Firms List, coming in at No. 2. Rankings were based on gross billings from 2017. BHI tops the list for the most licensed engineers in New Mexico and made the Top 5, by year founded. We appreciate the hard work and dedication from all of our leaders and staff—it’s because of you that BHI continues to stay at the top year after year!
