Planning Process

The 2045 MTP is part of the ongoing transportation planning that takes place in the region. Further information on the FMPO can be found here.

Building on Recent Planning Efforts

2040 MTP

The 2045 MTP complements and builds on recent planning efforts conducted by the MPO, including the 2040 MTP, adopted in 2015. Key considerations from the existing 2040 MTP that will be accounted for in the 2045 MTP include responding to the transportation system’s current maintenance needs, establishing a prioritization process and performance measures, and an emphasis on Complete Streets and investing in all modes of transportation. A copy of the 2040 MTP can be found here.

Complete Streets Design Guidelines

FMPO, in collaboration with community groups across the region, developed the Complete Streets Design Guidelines to address the need for transportation infrastructure for all modes and safe roadway design. The recommendations contained in the Complete Streets Design Guidelines will be incorporated into the policy guidance of the 2045 MTP and will inform the projects selected for long-term implementation. The Design Guidelines can be found here.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

The FMPO Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, adopted in 2019, is used to guide bicycle, pedestrian, and trails projects that link communities, provide access to parks, schools, residences and businesses, encourage walking and biking for commuting, and improve the health of the citizens and the communities across the region.
