Get Involved in the 2045 Farmington MPO Metropolitan Transportation Plan
The Farmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (FMPO), a regional transportation planning agency serving communities across San Juan County, is beginning work on the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The MTP examines regional transportation issues and develops a vision for meeting long-term transportation needs across all modes of transportation (i.e. single-occupancy vehicles, public transit, pedestrian, bicycle, aviation, and freight).
FMPO has contracted with Bohannan Huston, Inc. to develop the 2045 MTP, which will be completed and adopted by September 2020. See the Planning Process and Participation pages for more information about the MTP and opportunities to get involved.

What is an MTP?
MTPs are planning documents that identify future transportation investments, policies, goals, and strategies for all modes of transportation for the next 20+ years. The MTP is updated every five years to reflect revised population projections and analyzes the region’s current and projected travel patterns. This information is used to develop a long-term transportation vision for the region that best serves the system’s users and addresses regional development needs. As transportation budgets are limited, MTPs also consider how to best utilize the federal funding available to the region.

Major components of the 2045 MTP include:
- Existing conditions analysis
- Growth projections and land use
- Analysis for all modes of transportation
- Funding analysis
- Project lists
- Freight analysis (i.e. truck, air, and rail)
- Performance measures
- Climate change analysis
