Located one mile west of the Chile Capital of the World, the Hatch Municipal Airport is in northern Doña Ana County 37 miles northwest of Las Cruces. With help from Bohannan Huston, the Village of Hatch Municipal Airport underwent a total reconstruction in 2000. In 2017, BHI was re-selected as the Village’s Airport consultant and has completed the following task orders under this contract:
Airport Action Plan Update
BHI completed the Hatch Municipal Airport Action Plan and Airport Layout Plan update to provide a roadmap for the next 10 years of airport development. The Action Plan followed the guidance of FAA Advisory Circulars and Orders and Federal Aviation Regulations. The Action Plan informs airport users, tenants, and neighbors about the Village of Hatch’s plan for potential aviation activity and is used as a tool for capital improvement planning, land use and transportation planning, compatible land use and zoning, and economic development.
Airport Drainage & Erosion Improvements
BHI designed a project for drainage improvements to address severe soil erosion from heavy local rainfall that is impacting the runway, aprons, taxiways, and access road. The design includes the installation of rock-filled gabions, the addition of a drop-down structure downstream, and a variety of other methods to stabilize and protect the project area from future erosion. The project is currently under construction.
