Socorro Main Canal Booster Station
Location: San Antonio, New Mexico
In a very short time period, the Rio Grande had experienced historic highs and lows in its water levels. Since the water level of the Rio Grande impacts the entire state of New Mexico, including municipalities, farmers, and wildlife, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) sought to provide reliability and flexibility in managing this critical resource.
Using a WaterSMART grant, a permanent booster station facility capable of pumping to two discharge points at variable flowrates was designed and constructed. This facility simplifies operations of existing facilities along this reach and provides drought resiliency for a more reliable water supply to farmers, the Rio Grande, and the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge.
