Located on the south side of Santa Fe, Presbyterian’s new medical center offers patients advanced medical technology covering a wide range of patient care services. BHI provided civil design for the 342,000 SF healthcare facility on its 40-acre desert campus setting. BHI developed the grading and drainage plan, coordinating the water harvesting design with the landscape architect to capture and utilize runoff to supplement irrigation. Naturalistic detention ponds were incorporated into the landscape design to create a drainage system that did not increase runoff from the site. A new public water line was designed to loop through the site to provide fire hydrants around the building and ensure adequate coverage and allows for future expansion. Other site features included a physician’s office building, a central plant, a helipad, and surface parking. A trail system was also added to provide connections to the hospital campus as well as to nearby adjoining multi-use trails.
