Summary
As a longtime service provider for the City of Farmington, BHI designed an innovative and naturalistic detention pond that attenuates the flood waters of the upstream basin to mitigate storm impacts on the surrounding neighborhoods, while remaining within the City’s project budget. The aesthetically pleasing design minimized visual impact from the roadways and the adjoining residential properties through the use of careful site selection and landform grading. Features of this challenging project included: taking steps to ensure that the facility remained non-jurisdictional, analyzing downstream impacts to existing drainage infrastructure, and the design of erosion control measures along the arroyo. A signature feature of this facility is the innovative shotcrete drop structure inspired by the surrounding sedimentary rock outcrops.
