The Mirehaven Arroyo Improvements project employs unique and innovative methods to integrate vital flood control measures into a residential development by using design features that complement the surrounding environment. The BHI team completed a drainage master plan and designed the improvements for the arroyo modifications that support the future backbone drainage infrastructure for the Mirehaven community. BHI’s one-of-a-kind design blends in with the landscape, maintaining the natural feel of the arroyo. The Mirehaven Arroyo is an earthen trapezoidal channel with shotcrete side slopes and an earthen bottom that conveys flows from the existing arroyo upstream and developed flows from the subdivision. The design incorporates recreational and aesthetic elements, as well as the innovative use of shotcrete. The improved design of the Mirehaven Arroyo is a crucial part of the community’s infrastructure that provides flood control and a beautiful backdrop while protecting life and property for the residents of Mirehaven.
