Nathan Roberts is a Senior Project Manager with Bohannan Huston’s Water Systems Group. Mr. Roberts specializes in hydraulic modeling, master planning, design, and construction. His experience allows him to quickly identify and understand water distribution system needs, operations, and critical facilities, noting how the details fit into the overall picture. Mr. Roberts graduated from the University of New Mexico and is an active member of the American Water Works Association.

Field Testing and Water Quality Calibration for Denver Water’s Real-Time WDS Model

Real time modeling is happening; however, with this advancement in hydraulic modeling, what are the other applications it can be used for? Denver Water is continuing to be a leader in hydraulic modeling and continuing to push the limits of how to leverage water distribution system models to better manage their utility. This presentation will discuss how Denver Water developed a calibrated water quality model to a calcium chloride pulse injected into their water distribution system without creating any water quality issues! Additionally, this presentation will discuss the residual effects of this project, including the field-testing program and district metered area development.
Angie Bacigalupa is an Environmental Engineering EIT at Bohannan Huston in Albuquerque. She graduated from New Mexico Tech and is passionate about sustainability and resilient solutions, particularly water resource conservation in arid environments. Angie has a wide range of experience in water resource engineering and has previously worked on distribution system design, stormwater drainage analysis and design, water quality monitoring, and MS4 permitting projects. She is currently focusing on water distribution system hydraulic modeling.

Understanding the Impact of Using Inside Diameters for WDS Modeling – A Greeley, CO Case Study

Bohannan Huston was selected by the City of Greeley to develop a new water distribution system (WDS) hydraulic model using inside diameters that was calibrated using real-time modeling methodologies. Inside pipe diameters were selected over nominal pipe sizes to account for Greeley having relined most of the cast iron and ductile iron pipes in the system. The hydraulic implications of using inside diameters versus nominal pipe sizes have not been thoroughly documented before. The calibrated Greeley WDS model was run with two pipe sets, one with inside diameters and one with nominal, and the results of the two models were compared. This presentation will discuss how differing diameters affect a WDS model.
