McKinley County Drainage Management Plan
Location: Gallup, New Mexico
BHI developed a Drainage Management Plan (DMP) for the US Army Corps of Engineers for select areas within McKinley County to evaluate and reduce flood damage to County roads and drainage infrastructure and to provide access and mobility during flood events. BHI studied 64-square miles of watershed, evaluated the flood risk at roadway crossing locations, and proposed risk reduction measures for locations that experience repeated flood damage. As part of this, our team conducted a detailed site investigation, completed comprehensive hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS, and provided a limited sediment scour analyses. The study helps the McKinley County Office of Emergency Management plan and prioritize infrastructure improvements for future construction.
