Manitou Springs Flood Control Master Plan
Location: Manitou Springs, Colorado
With funding from a DOLA CDBG-DR grant, the BHI team completed the Manitou Springs Flood Control Master Plan. The plan includes prioritized flood control and restoration concepts with recommendations for drainage management improvements. These concepts will be a guide for critical watershed system improvements that build resilience in the Manitou Springs portion of the Fountain Creek Watershed.
BHI performed site investigation, field survey, and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and created detailed models for Ruxton, Sutherland, and Fountain Creeks, and Becker’s Lane Tributary. The hydrologic analysis refined the Upper Fountain Creek watershed by subdividing local basins to create a more detailed, useful model. Hydraulic analysis was performed for the creeks and the major storm drain systems to identify existing capacity constraints. Recommendations for improvements, stormwater quality BMPs, and wildlife habitat restoration efforts were developed and prioritized for the final master plan.
