Owner: City of Hobbs
Location: Hobbs, New Mexico
2022 ACEC New Mexico Engineering Excellence Award Winner
In recent years, the growth of Hobbs, New Mexico, has required significant investment in the community wastewater utility to expand capacity and improve its effectiveness. BHI led a team to develop and improve the aerobic digester process at the 6.4 MGD rated Hobbs Water Reclamation Facility. The project included designing a similar system at a new location within the existing facility site to improve the system’s effectiveness. The challenge was creating a new digester to fit in the limited footprint. The team’s approach to this design was a unique, four-basin square grid that could expand to six basins with a central distribution box, allowing different configurations to work depending on the operator/maintenance needs. The BHI team also included a clean interior structure environment, increasing efficiency and preventing difficult maintenance situations.
