BHI worked with the City of Albuquerque to design and implement a week-long biking event in September 2020 to replace the annual Bike to Work Day, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To support the event, BHI quickly developed a website (https://bikethruburque.com) with unique branding and a series of bicycling events and activities. Through the website, participants could learn more about bicycling, access City resources, take a safety quiz, commit to riding, and participate in a scavenger hunt and photo contest. The website also included an option to get free bicycling gear by registering through the site and visiting a local business serving as a pick-up site. More than 1,800 individuals engaged in Bike Thru Burque activities.
