Allison Road Corridor and Rio Puerco Bridge Replacement
Location: Gallup, New Mexico
ACEC-NM Engineering Excellence Award Winner
The replacement of the Allison Road Rio Puerco Bridge and corresponding road connections is the first phase of improvements of the multi-phase $42 million Allison Road Corridor project. The overall project mitigates existing geometric, physical, and operational deficiencies; improves safety; and provides system connectivity. It will make vast improvements to the transportation network for the City of Gallup and the I-40 corridor with the goal of promoting commercial development and facilitating economic growth in the Gallup area. BHI provided a safety study to evaluate intersections near the BNSF railway and investigated a new north/south route across I-40 to select an optimal route for a potential new interchange. BHI also provided alignment evaluations, structural design of the bridge, traffic modeling and evaluation, drainage analysis, environmental investigations, utility coordination, geotechnical investigation, right-of-way review, construction management and inspection, agency coordination, and public involvement.
