Bohannan Huston Chosen for MRCOG Orthophotography Project
(ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO / March 6, 2008) – Albuquerque-based Bohannan Huston, Inc. (BHI) has been chosen by the Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) for the 2008 Regional Digital Orthophotography Project. BHI will provide high-resolution natural color digital images, topographic and LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data, and related services for the project, which encompasses 2,310 square miles in central New Mexico, including parts of Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Torrance, and Valencia counties.
The project’s goal is to generate planimetrically accurate digital geographic images of central New Mexico that can be used in Geographic Information System (GIS) software as well as for education, resource management, and community planning purposes. The data produced by the project is also used by the New Mexico Resource Geographic Information System Program (RGIS), which is a clearinghouse for geographic data sharing among the public and private sectors at local, state, and federal levels.
“This is important research that really helps our member governments make better decisions about transportation planning,” said Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of Governments. “MRCOG is happy to facilitate this project in the region and for others who use this valuable geographic data.”
“We look forward to the 2008 orthophotography project,” said Dennis Sandin, senior vice president and managing principal of BHI and the MRCOG project manager. “BHI has provided LiDAR and orthophotography production for MRCOG since 1999. Each year that we are selected for the project we cover a larger area, which shows there is a rising demand for accurate aerial imagery of New Mexico’s growing central counties.”
BHI will work with aerial mapping company Surdex Corporation, one of BHI’s strategic partners, to conduct aerial acquisition using an Intergraph Z/I Imaging® DMC® (Digital Mapping Camera) and the Leica ALS50-II LiDAR system.
